Former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has died in London after a protracted battle with severe heart failure and complications related to urinary cancer.
Obiano, who led Anambra State from March 2014 to March 2022, passed away following months of declining health, according to family sources. Confirmation of his death came on November 14, 2025, with his relatives expressing their devastation at the sudden collapse of his health.
Medical teams in London provided intensive care for Obiano during his final days, but his condition deteriorated rapidly. Until his death, Obiano was facing an ongoing money laundering case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), with trial scheduled to begin later this month at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
