The Governorship candidate of Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia state, Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu has decried the poor condition of infrastructures in the Ukwa area of the state

Speaking at an event in Ohanso-Ndoki, Ukwa East L.G.A, the former Abia state Chief of Staff frowned at the deplorable conditions of Ukwa roads and other essential amenities, and could not fathom why the government has failed Ukwa even when it is an oil-producing region of Abia state.

“Government has failed Ukwa; they take away from Ukwa and don’t give much in return. As an oil-producing area, Ukwa is too important to us to be abandoned.”

He further wondered why an area like Ukwa with all the mineral resources will lack good access roads and functional electricity. To this end, he promised to reconstruct their roads and reinstall electricity if elected as Governor.

On youth empowerment, he also promised to create job opportunities for the youths. “We cannot have palm plantation in Ukwa without having palm-oil processing factory that will absorb the youth”, he said.

He, therefore, urged the youths to get their PVCs as things are going to get better in Ukwa and Abia state at large.

In a receptive speech, Barr. Fidelis Nnah, a former Transition Committee Chairman in the state, said anything that has to do with the Uzor Kalu’s family interests the Ukwa people.

“The development we have had so far was gotten under the government of your brother, His Excellency, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu. So, anything that has to do with the Uzor Kalu’s family, regardless of party lines, Ukwa people are in support.”

Barr. Nnah went on to narrate how commuters amongst his people find it very difficult to access other parts of the state, even when the proximity is close.

The Ukwa region of Abia state comprises two local governments, Ukwa East and Ukwa West Local Government Areas.
