President Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Ahmed Shettima, have tendered a copy of the Labour Party (LP) membership register from Anambra state as evidence that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the LP, is not a member of the party.
Tinubu and Shettima jointly maintained their argument at the ongoing President Tribunal on Tuesday that Obi, for not being a member of the Labour Party at the time the party conducted its last presidential primaries, was not a member of the party and did not qualify to contest in the 2023 presidential election on the party’s platform.
Lead Counsel to Tinubu and Shetimma, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), tendered the document along with LP’s letter, dated April 25, 2022, forwarding the membership register to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The documents were tendered along with other documents on Wednesday when Tinubu and Shettma opened their defense in Obi, LP’s petition against their victory at the presidential poll.
The court admitted the documents and marked them as exhibits, despite an objection to their admissibility by the lead Counsel to the petitioners, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN).
The Labour Party and its Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, are challenging Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the presidential election.
