They are strong indications that Abdullahi Ganduje is the favorite choice of President Bola Tinubu for the chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to ThiDay Newspaper, Tinubu and other leaders of the APC may have settled for the former Kano Governor to replace AAbdullahiAdamu as the substantive national chairman of the party.
This comes after the president met with APC governors in Abuja behind closed doors last night, a meeting Ganduje also attended.
MUK TV gathered that Ganduje was nominated as a minister, but his name was withdrawn on Tuesday after Adamu’s resignation.
The former governor was said to be more interested in becoming a minister, a position he had heavily lobbied for, than becoming a party administrator.
But President Tinubu and other bigwigs of the party persuaded him to sacrifice his ministerial ambition for the chairmanship position of the party.
“Ganduje had to be lobbied. This is what is delaying the announcement of the ministerial nominees in the Senate Chamber, even though the president had already sent the list on Tuesday,” a source who pleaded for anonymity told this paper.
After he accepted the offer, President Tinubu asked him to bring his replacement from Kano and five other people for appointments.
Another former governor, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State will also be announced as the National Secretary of the APC.
