The Defence Chief of member-states of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) has begun a strategic meeting over the military coup in Niger.
The meeting started on Monday at 12:30 pm at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, and is chaired by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.
This comes after the ECOWAS Head of States gave the Nigerien coupists a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate the ousted President Mohammed Bazoum and return to democratic rule.
In the meeting, Chiefs of Defence Staff of Nigeria, Ghana, the Gambia, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d Ivoire, Cape Verde, Senegal, Benin Republic, Guinea Bissau.
But representatives from Niger, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea-Bissau were conspicuously absent at the meeting.
