The military juntas in Niger, who ousted the democratically elected president and seized power through a coup last month, have shown signs of transitioning to civilian rule as they formed a new government.

This was according to a decree read out on national television on Thursday morning.

Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine will lead the 21-member government, with generals from the new military governing council heading the defense and interior ministries.
