The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has hailed the instant innovative impact of the state’s Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Lady Mrs. Adaze Aguele-Kalu (FCCA, FCA, MBA), in the prudent management of the scarce resources of the state.
The governor made the complimentary remark on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the 6th Southern Zonal Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Of Nigeria (ICAN) in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.
Speaking on the theme, “Quest for Good Governance in Nigeria: The Chartered Accountants’ Perspective,” Governor Obaseki said the Commissioner’s passion for accountability, which is in line with his government’s commitment to transparency, has contributed to the prudent management of the state’s resources.
Commending the laudable contribution of Mrs. Kalu, who is an ICAN Fellow, to his administration within a short time of her appointment, Obaseki affirmed that the role of professional bodies like ICAN in proffering solutions that would enhance the delivery of the dividends of democracy to our citizens can’t be overemphasized.
He disclosed that Edo state revenue has significantly increased from N116 billion when he came into office in 2016 to N320 billion, recording 85 percent growth annually.
Obaseki also reeled out the e-governance reforms his administration has taken, adding that the reforms have transformed the state into the best in terms of deploying technology in public governance in the country.
Adaze Aguele-Kalu is the wife of the 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia State, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu (KSJI).
Recall that the Edo-born technocrat was appointed as Commissioner in her home state earlier this year, a position in which she has brought her wealth of professional experience to bear in coordinating the economy of the state.
