Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, was on Thursday locked inside his office at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works, Mabushi, Abuja, by protesting workers of the ministry who accused him of high-handedness.
MUK TV gathered that the workers revolted because the minister prevented many of them who came to work late from gaining entrance to the ministry’s premises.
Angered that they were treated like secondary school students, the union members comprising the Housing and Works ministry locked the ministry, blocking all entry and exit points and preventing the minister from leaving the office.
They also claim that he stopped engineers and directors from doing their work and has been breaking public service rules since his appointment by bringing in consultants to run affairs in the ministry.
A union official, Williams Kudi
told AIT that the minister has refused to grant them an audience to express their concerns.
The minister and his aides at the time of filing this report have so far been unreachable.
