The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, on Sunday, nullified the election of the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Simon Mwadkon, representing Plateau North, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The nullification was on the grounds of noncompliance with the party’s guidelines for nomination.
According to the Appeal Court, the PDP did not validly nominate Sen. Simon Mwadkon.
The court ruled that the nonparticipation of 12 local government areas in the PDP’s congress rendered Mwadkon’s election null and void.
The appellate court, therefore, ordered a fresh election within 90 days to elect a new senator for the Plateau North Senatorial District.
Senator Mwadkon is excluded from the fresh election, according to the court’s ruling.
Recall that Gyang Yaya Zi of the Labour Party (LP) had sued Senator Mwadkwon, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respondents for the Plateau State Northern Senatorial District.
