Professor Ben Nwabueze (SAN), Nigeria’s foremost and distinguished Constitutional Lawyer, has died at the age of 92, a family source has confirmed.
Born in 1931, Prof. Nwabueze who hailed from Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, played a prominent role in the drafting of the 1979 constitution.
The death of the former Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide was confirmed by the family spokesperson, Eni Nwabueze, in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, the legal luminary peacefully passed away on Sunday evening in his home at the age of 94.
The Vice-President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, also confirmed his passing, highlighting Nwabueze’s legacy of “selfless service and dedication” to Nigeria’s progress.”
Okeke-Ogene lauded Nwabueze as an eminent constitutional lawyer and a minister of exceptional merit, known for his vocal stance against corruption.
His contributions to Nigeria’s legal system have been invaluable, making his loss a significant one for both the nation and the Igbo community.
Burial arrangements will be announced at a later time to honor the life and contributions of this remarkable legal luminary .
