Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has suffered a brutal attack, leading to his immediate transfer to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri.
His right eye is completely swollen due to the severity of the assault.
Comrade Benson Upah, the NLC Head of Information and Publicity, characterized the incident as an abduction that escalated into an attempted murder.
According to Upah, contact was established with Comrade Joe Ajaero around 15:30 hours in the evening at the Police Hospital in Owerri, and he was subsequently transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri for urgent medical attention.
Ajaero, who had been beaten and blindfolded following his arrest, provided a harrowing account of his ordeal.
He revealed that he was initially taken to an undisclosed location where he was subjected to further brutalization, including the use of bottles.
Throughout this traumatic incident, Ajaero’s personal belongings, including his phones, money, and other possessions, were forcibly taken from him and have not been returned. This disturbing act of violence against a prominent labor leader raises significant concerns.
