The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has administered the oath of office to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, officially inaugurating her as the Senator representing Kogi Central, marking a significant development that makes her the first female Senator from Kogi state following her legal triumph.
This event comes after a legal battle where Akpoti-Uduaghan’s election victory, confirmed by the Kogi National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, was upheld by the Appeal Court on Monday.
Her opponent, Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had initially challenged her electoral success at the lower court and later at the appellate court.
The Appeal Court’s ruling affirmed the Tribunal’s earlier judgment, which declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, as the rightful Senator of Kogi Central, with 54,354 lawful votes, while Ohere of the APC received 51,291 votes.
The official swearing-in took place at 11:41 a.m., conducted by the Senate’s Clerk, marking a significant moment in Kogi Central’s representation.
