The Edo State Police Command has apprehended the husband of Mrs. Toluige Olokoobi following her tragic suicide.
Olokoobi gained public attention as the mother of Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, the young boy whose plea, “Mummy be calming down,” went viral in 2020.
The video, where Oreofeoluwa tearfully appealed to his mother, caught the interest of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who used it in an Eid-el-Kabir message to encourage calm during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the family’s initial popularity, news emerged on Tuesday that Mrs. Olokoobi had taken her own life in Benin, Edo State. An eyewitness, identified as an X user, reported her refusal to share her problems with anyone before the tragic incident.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that Mrs. Olokoobi’s husband had been arrested and detained for questioning.
The husband, who reported the matter to the police, claimed to have discovered his wife hanging with a rope around her neck upon returning from the market.
Nwabuzor further explained that after being rushed to the hospital and confirmed dead, Mrs. Olokoobi’s body was taken to the mortuary.
The circumstances surrounding her suicide are yet to be uncovered by the police.
