Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level Petrochemical Engineering student at the University of Port Harcourt, has been remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre following allegations of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level Biochemistry student at the same university.
The Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, presided over by Chief Magistrate Nnenda Obiageri-Onugbum, remanded Okoligwe based on the gravity of the offense, as appealed by the prosecuting counsel.
Notably, the defense counsel, O.G Nweke, didn’t oppose this request.
The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, ordered the accused to be remanded pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The case file has been transferred to the DPP for further examination.
The hearing has been adjourned until December 15, 2023, awaiting the DPP’s report.
This development marks a significant step in the progression of the case involving the tragic incident.
