Former Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has admitted that there are spiritual forces in the Government House against governance, disclosing that he was not in control over policies during his reign as governor.
Speaking at a Special Thanksgiving/Welcome Service by the United Evangelical Church in Lagos Township Superintendency, he emphasized the challenges and blessings he encountered throughout his time in office.
The Punch reports that in an official statement from the Press Unit of the Government House, Uyo, Udom expressed his regret about the lack of control over policies during his term.
“The only regret I have is that I did not control policies. If I had control over policies as a state, trust me, we would have been miles ahead as a state. But today, I still thank God that we went with our blueprint and God helped us,” the ex-governor said.
He credited his administration’s accomplishments to their outlined blueprint and divine assistance.
While acknowledging spiritual forces at play in governance, Udom affirmed his unwavering faith in God’s supremacy and guidance throughout his leadership.
During the event, the former Akwa Ibom governor recalled his miraculous escape from the 2016 Reigners Bible Church building collapse.
Reflecting on the incident, he shared the inexplicable event where the church beam fell, narrowly missing him.
He attributed his survival to a mysterious intervention, emphasizing the importance of his intact team during his tenure.
“My narrow escape in the December 10, 2016 building collapse remains a mystery only God can explain. The place where I was sitting the central beam from the ceiling shattered the white seat where I was sitting, I don’t know but I came out alive without even a scratch.
“Most importantly, we want to thank God that we went into the Government House complete, we left complete, not one of us is missing. Throughout my ten years, because I was SSG before I became governor, one of the things I cherished is that throughout that period, God did not stop speaking to me,” Udom said.
He also praised the support received during the challenging times leading up to the 2019 elections, highlighting the determination to stay resilient against threats and obstacles.
Governor Umo Eno praised Udom and his wife, describing them as divine gifts to Akwa Ibom. He acknowledged the duo’s significant contributions to the state’s development, attributing the region’s newfound popularity as a conference destination to their initiatives.
As the event concluded, Governor Umo Eno extended warm regards and appreciation from the people of Akwa Ibom to the former governor and his wife, thanking them for their exceptional service.
