Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has assured his supporters of securing victory in the upcoming gubernatorial election, boldly declaring his readiness to defeat the favored candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
During a TVC program on Monday evening, Shaibu reaffirmed his determination to emerge victorious, following his formal announcement on Monday to contest for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in the impending party primaries.
In a symbolic move, Shaibu inaugurated his campaign office in Benin City, the state capital, drawing a significant turnout of party loyalists.
“Definitely, I’ll defeat the so-called candidate of the governor, not because I have the power, but because Edo people want their own and I am their own. Edo people do not want importation; they want their own,” stated the aspirant.
Addressing the rift between him and Governor Obaseki, Shaibu highlighted the emergence of certain influential individuals affecting their relationship.
He emphasized differing managerial approaches between them while acknowledging the challenges faced amid the political landscape.
“When I said I was pressed, but not distressed, I understand the kind of intimidation and oppression I have gone through,” expressed the hopeful gubernatorial candidate.
