Hasan Bitmez, a Turkish lawmaker, suffered a collapse while addressing Parliament, just moments after delivering a speech where he proclaimed that Israel would face divine retribution.
Bitmez, 53, slumped on stage while discussing the 2024 Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Internal Affairs budget.
In a video that circulated widely on X (previously Twitter), he sternly warned Israel, stating, “You will not escape the wrath of Allah. I salute you all,” just before collapsing.
During his speech, Bitmez quoted a poem by Turkish writer Sezai Karakoc, emphasizing that history might not acknowledge the truth but that the truth would always prevail.
He warned that Israel, even if it eliminates them, would not escape the torment of conscience and the wrath of Allah.
“Even if history remains silent, the truth will not remain silent. They think that if they get rid of us, there will be no problem.
“However, if you get rid of us, you will not be able to escape the torment of conscience. Even if you escape the torment of history, you will not be able to escape the wrath of Allah,” Bitmez said
A member of the Grand National Assembly, Bitmez received immediate CPR at the scene and was then rushed to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca shared updates on Bitmez’s condition on social media, stating that the lawmaker was “intubated and taken to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital” after falling ill during his speech.
Minister Koca added that after angiography, Bitmez was placed on a heart-lung pump and moved to intensive care.
He expressed his best wishes for the lawmaker’s recovery, mentioning ongoing monitoring by medical staff in the intensive care unit at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital.
