Olu Agunloye, former Minister of State for Power, is currently in custody at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja, as confirmed by a source to Vanguard on Tuesday.

Details about a potential court appearance or bail release, however, remain undisclosed.

The investigation revolves around Agunloye’s alleged involvement in the failed Mambilla Power Project, which incurred substantial expenditures for Nigeria without yielding results.

His detention follows the recent declaration of his wanted status by the anti-graft agency. The source clarified, “He has been with the EFCC since December 13th, although this was not publicized.”

Agunloye, a minister during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure (1999–2003), faces allegations from Obasanjo regarding the Mambilla power project. Obasanjo accused him of irregularly awarding the scheme without Federal Executive Council approval.

In response, Agunloye refuted these claims, asserting his innocence and attributing the allegations to misinformation spread by Obasanjo.
