Governor Alex Otti of Abia state has urged Nigerians to exhibit patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing confidence that its economic strategies will yield fruitful results in due course.

Following his visit to Tinubu at his Lagos residence, Otti, the only governor from the opposition Labour Party (LP), highlighted the challenging circumstances under which Tinubu assumed office, emphasizing the high inflation rate, substantial national debt, and soaring unemployment figures.

“You know, he came in at a difficult time when inflation was close to 30 per cent, the national debt almost $40 billion, and unemployment close to 33.3 per cent,” he tremarked while addressing reporters on Sunday.

Acknowledging the complexities inherent in these policies, the Abia state governor underscored the immediate hardships faced by a populace where over 60% live below the poverty line.

He stressed the need for steadfastness without compromise, believing that adhering to these policies would eventually yield positive transformations.

“The President has been very courageous, unifying the exchange rate and removing fuel subsidy which had become a scam and costing the nation a lot of money

“Those policies are good but they come with their negative sides. They come with challenges for an economy where over 60 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line.

“So, it’s not going to be easy immediately but I believe that if we are patient and if we go through the policies without compromising, over time, things will turn around,” Otti added.

Expressing gratitude for Tinubu’s intervention in revitalizing the long-neglected Aba section of the Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway, he credited the President for catalyzing the resumption of the federal highway’s reconstruction.
