The somber atmosphere in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State persisted as mourners gathered on Christmas Day to bid farewell to six traders ruthlessly killed by terrorists during a fateful attack.

Accounts from residents detailed the traders’ tragic demise on Sunday evening as they journeyed back from a local market within the council.

The victims—Yusuf Karamiusu, Sale Lamin, Dan Hameme, Mallam Shafi, Mallam Dikke, and Kashim Samiu—were laid to rest in Yan Gayya village on Monday, following Islamic funeral rites.

Reports further gathered by The Punch revealed that four others—Biliyaminu, Mallam Jafaru, Lawal Dachi, and Dan Hasuma—sustained injuries during the assault and were presently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

The residents divulged that amid the chaos, two men, identified as Alhaji Abdurashidi and Abdu Teacher, were abducted by the terrorists during the attack.

The assailants, reportedly fleeing from a security operation in Zamfara State, ambushed the vehicle transporting the traders at Kukar Babangida village. They fatally shot the driver, forcing the vehicle to a stop.

Describing the horrific ordeal, a resident recounted, “The traders were travelling from Jibia market to Yan Gayya after trading at the market. The driver was shot dead which forced the vehicle to stop down the road. The terrorists killed six traders, abducted two and wounded four. The terrorists thereafter left without taking anything from the vehicle.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Aliyu, assured that law enforcement had deployed operational resources to track down and apprehend the culprits.

Aliyu stated, “Yes,it is true. The command has deployed its operational assets to track down and arrest the perpetrators.”
