President Bola Tinubu has approved the suspension of Halima Shehu from her position as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

The immediate suspension and subsequent investigation of Ms. Shehu were approved by Tinubu, with Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-Power Programme manager, appointed in an acting capacity as NC/CEO during the investigation, as reported by Channels TV.

Halima Shehu’s appointment, made by President Tinubu in October 2023, received Senate confirmation on October 18, 2023.

Shehu, renowned for her banking expertise, previously served as the National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, where she spearheaded the program’s digital transformation. Her professional journey included employment at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development from 2017 to 2022.

Born in Kafin Dagi village, Katsina, Katsina State, Shehu pursued her early education at the Federal Government College in Kaduna State, where she earned her West African Examination Certificate.

Her foray into politics began in 2010, marked by her appointment as a Senior Special Assistant to former Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema, in 2011. She also held a position on the state’s Internal Revenue Board.

In 2016, Shehu’s involvement extended to international affairs when she was appointed by the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) to serve as a presidential election observer in Cape Verde.
