Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has expressed a profound sense of betrayal by Governor Godwin Obaseki for failing to support his candidacy in the forthcoming 2024 governorship election.
Shaibu, who claimed he was encouraged to assume the role of deputy governor to Obaseki, highlighted his contributions in enhancing Obaseki’s administration, particularly in terms of political structure and financial support.
In an interview on Arise TV, Shaibu expressed dismay that instead of endorsing him, Obaseki is backing an external candidate, causing hurt and disappointment, The Punch reports.
His discontent stems from Monday’s meeting of Peoples Democratic Party leaders in Edo North, where a former Sterling Bank chairman, Asue Ighodalo, was endorsed as the preferred PDP governorship candidate, a development hile kicked against.
The gathering, orchestrated by former deputy governor Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, was attended by several influential party figures.
