In response to the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, has stepped in to lead the ministry’s operations.
This move came in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to suspend Edu on Monday due to allegations of funneling public funds into private accounts.
Enitan took charge after receiving a directive from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Monday night, Vanguard reports.
President Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed the President’s directive, instructing the suspended Minister to “transfer responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.”
“The President has also commissioned a panel, led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to comprehensively evaluate the financial structure of the social investment programmes,” Ngelale stated. The directive aims to address institutional weaknesses for the betterment of vulnerable households and regain public trust in the initiative.
