The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, faced a horrific incident as unruly individuals invaded the facility, wreaking havoc in its Accident and Emergency Complex.
The attack followed the death of a man, further intensifying the chaos.
Expressing condemnation, the Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, revealed that the hoodlums, fueled by anger over the man’s demise, forcibly seized his corpse from the Accident and Emergency Ward on Monday morning.
In a statement issued by the hospital’s management, Olabanji asserted, “Management will not tolerate any act of violence or mayhem being unleashed on members of staff of the hospital,” adding that, “The management has stationed four armed policemen at the Accident and Emergency as well as two armed policemen at the main gate to strengthen the security of the hospital until further notice.”
The CMD disclosed that the hospital’s management, along with the police authorities, engaged with the state Chairman of the Road Transport Association, tasking him to identify and produce the ringleader, as the information suggested the involvement of an association member.
To enhance security, Olabanji detailed that four armed policemen were stationed at the Accident and Emergency, along with two armed policemen at the main gate, reinforcing the hospital’s security until further notice.
Assuring proactive measures, Olabanji mentioned that the Division Police Officer, SP Sesan Falade, committed to frequent patrols of the hospital premises.
Regarding a similar incident at the Neo-Natal Ward, the CMD emphasized that the individual involved would face legal consequences, with the case already in court and the culprit under prosecution.
Olabanji urged the hospital staff to remain calm, assuring that effective steps were being taken to prevent a recurrence.
The management emphasized its unwavering stance against any form of staff molestation during duty discharge.
