Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured that mining activities will not face a ban in the state, addressing the recent explosion in Bodija, Ibadan.
Providing updates on the incident affecting Bodija, Agbowo, Eleyele, and Orogun, Makinde attributed the explosion to illegal miners storing explosive devices.
Despite the challenges, Makinde expressed his government’s control over the situation, highlighting support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The governor emphasized the provision of temporary shelters for victims and their families as part of the response.
Responding to inquiries on Channels TV Politics Today, Makinde stated, “I will not ban mining activities,” citing legal miners, potential international investors, and the importance of upholding contracts.
He stressed a measured approach, avoiding a knee-jerk reaction in the face of the complex situation.
