Nigeria commemorated the life of Aderonke Kale, its pioneering figure and the first female Major General, who passed away on November 8, 2023.

Her son, Yemi Kale, former Statistician-General at the National Bureau of Statistics, shared touching photos of her final journey on his X handle.

Funeral arrangements, as disclosed by Yemi, unfolded with the internment ceremony at St James Anglican Church, Mobalufo, Ejirin Road, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on Friday.

The subsequent reception, held at Omolayole Hall, University of Ibadan International Conference Centre, took place on Saturday.

At the age of 84, Kale’s groundbreaking achievements resonate as she became the first female officer promoted to the rank of Major General in the Nigerian Army and across West Africa.

She made history as the inaugural female Commander of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, leaving an enduring legacy in the country’s military history.
