The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan Kudangbena, has made it clear that the 16 suspended members of the Assembly will not be allowed to resume plenary until a precise interpretation of the court judgment is presented.
Addressing reporters after a brief sitting, Kudangbena emphasized the need for a full understanding of judgments from both the court of appeal and the supreme court before any decisions are made.
He stated, “The Plateau State House of Assembly has only 8 members whose seats are not in contest, and only 8 members are recognized by my leadership. The other 16 members will join us when the law is made clear.”
Hon Ishaku Maren, the leader of the 16 PDP lawmakers who attempted to resume plenary but were locked out, expressed agreement with the Speaker’s position.
He assured, “We are ready to wait until the judgments are interpreted to give legitimacy to the House of Assembly.”
While the 16 APC lawmakers were absent from the plenary, the state publicity secretary of APC, Sylvanus Namang, explained that they were advised to stay away to prevent clashes.
As of the latest report, the situation at the old Government House is calm, with workers fully resuming their duties.
