The police command in Jigawa has apprehended three suspects in connection with the brazen theft of 48 goats in Babura and Kiyawa Local Government Areas of the state, according to the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi.
Speaking to newsmen in Dutse on Thursday, CP Abdullahi disclosed that the arrests were made in separate operations conducted between Monday and Tuesday. Two of the suspects, Abdullahi Usman, 20, and Hassan Ado, 22, were alleged to have conspired with Tasiu Umar (still at large) to steal 26 goats valued at a staggering N1.3 million.
The CP detailed that Hassan Ibrahim of Abari village in Niger Republic reported the theft of his goats worth N1.3 million on Jan. 22.
Acting swiftly upon receiving the report, the police arrested Usman Ado and recovered eight goats in their possession.
“On Jan. 23, at about 4 p.m., a patrol team attached to Kiyawa police division, while on patrol, accosted Ado Buba, aged 22, of Dundubus Fulani camp in Dutse, while in possession of 22 goats strongly suspected to be stolen,” he is quoted to have said by the News Agency of Nigeria.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the theft of the 26 goats, revealing that 18 of them were sold to Abdullahi Amadu of Kunyafa village and one Mustapha of Madangana village (both at large) for N210,000.
A third suspect, Ado Buba, 25, hailing from Dundubus village in Dutse, was apprehended in possession of 22 goats suspected to be stolen on Jan. 23, according to the CP. A patrol team attached to Kiyawa police division intercepted Buba and the goats, leading to his arrest.
Buba later confessed to stealing the goats from Andaza village in Kiyawa.
The CP noted that upon completion of the investigation, the suspects would be charged to court.
