The Nigerian Bar Association’s Section on Public Interest and Development Law is heading to the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking the removal of Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa over alleged violations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act.
In a lawsuit filed by NBA-SPIDEL Chairman John Aikpokpo-Martins and Secretary Funmi Adeogun, the organization also calls for the nullification of NYSC certificates for Musawa and music promoter Kenny Ogungbe, asserting that the issuance was against the provisions of the NYSC Act Cap N84.
The plaintiffs argue that mobilizing Musawa and Ogungbe for mandatory national youth service after surpassing the age of 30 was unlawful and an affront to patriotism.
They claim that the national service and certificates issued by NYSC to both individuals are null and void.
The lawsuit seeks a declaration that the defendants are not entitled to be employed without presenting valid NYSC certificates.
They also request a declaration that Musawa is ineligible to hold public office after allegedly violating sections of the National Youth Service Corps Act.
This legal action adds another layer to the controversy surrounding the NYSC certificates of the Minister and the music promoter.
