The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Kano State, has taken swift action by suspending a lecturer accused of subjecting students to corporal punishment.
Announced by the university’s Deputy Registrar of the Information and Public Relations Unit, Sa’idu Abdullahi Nayaya, the suspension comes in response to a viral video depicting students enduring physical punishment, including frog jumps, for minor infractions.
“The staff in question, after suspension, will face the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for further action,” stated the university management, emphasizing its commitment to student welfare and safety.
The institution underscored its dedication to maintaining a conducive learning environment and ensuring the rights of all students are upheld.
In support of the university’s decision, the Students Union Government (SUG) commended the management’s swift response.
SUG President, Adamu Habibu Ado, urged students to remain calm, affirming that decisions were made in the best interest of the university community.
Ado emphasized the importance of students adhering to established rules and regulations, highlighting the institution’s commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and learning.
