Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, revealed that the signatures of both ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and himself were forged in the withdrawal of $6,230,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on February 8, 2023.
Mustapha made this statement during his testimony on Tuesday, February 13, in the trial of former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.
He clarified that he had no knowledge of the money supposedly withdrawn for payment to foreign election observers.
According to Mustapha, it was not within the federal government or SGF’s jurisdiction to request funds from the CBN for election observer payments.
He stressed that such matters fell under the purview of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During the trial, an official from the CBN, Michael Onyeka Ogbu, disclosed that the cash amount was handed over to an official from the SGF’s office, Jibril Abubakar, following approvals by President Buhari and CBN governor Emefiele.
Emefiele is accused of orchestrating the withdrawal, as alleged by the prosecution.
More details to follow as the trial progresses.
