In what was a moment of honor and recognition, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was bestowed with a prestigious chieftaincy title on Sunday by the traditional ruler of Mgbede community in Egbema Kingdom, Rivers State, Nzeobi Amida.
Dubbed “Ugo Egbema – The Pride of Egbema Kingdom,” the title was awarded to Nwabali in acknowledgment of his outstanding performance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations held in Cote D’Ivoire, as reported by Nigerian sports website, BSN.
Amida, who doubles as the chairman of ONELGA Council of Chiefs, emphasized that the title symbolizes the pride and distinction Nwabali has brought to Egbema Kingdom and ONELGA through his contributions to the success of the Super Eagles.
Earlier, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, presented Nwabali, a native of Rivers State, with a sum of N20 million and bestowed upon him the prestigious honor of the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.
Adding to the accolades, President Bola Tinubu extended recognition to every player and official of the Nigerian Super Eagles, awarding them the Member of the Order of the Niger national award in acknowledgment of their silver medal achievement at the recently concluded AFCON.
