A former Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, faced intense interrogation today at the Ilorin office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over financial transactions worth billions of naira during his tenure.

Ahmed, who governed the North Central state from May 2011 to May 2019, arrived at the EFCC office on Monday morning in response to an invitation from the anti-graft agency.

He is currently providing answers regarding the expenditure of state funds during his administration.

This is not the first time Ahmed has faced scrutiny from the EFCC.

In 2021, he was questioned at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja regarding the alleged misappropriation of approximately N9 billion from Kwara State Government funds.

The diversion of funds is said to have occurred during Ahmed’s governorship and his previous role as Commissioner for Finance under ex-Governor Bukola Saraki’s administration.
