The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken decisive action by sealing off the Priesthood Orphanage in Karon Majigi Village, Abuja, following the rescue of 23 children aged between one and 14, reportedly trafficked from Plateau.

Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, Mandate Secretary of the FCTA’s Women Affairs Secretariat, revealed this development while facilitating the handover of the rescued children to Plateau’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Caroline Dafur, in Abuja on Monday.

Benjamins-Laniyi affirmed ongoing investigations to uncover the truth behind the allegations, stating that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had authorized a comprehensive recertification process for orphanages in Abuja.

“The Minister has approved a thorough reprofiling and recertification of orphanage homes in Abuja.

“We are already in coordination with Mrs. Dafur to ensure the safe reunification of these children with their families,” she stated.

Mrs. Dafur highlighted the dire conditions at the orphanage, revealing that three children managed to escape and were eventually rescued by the Federal Road Safety Corps.

“The place is just so unkempt. Nine girls were sleeping in a very small room with just two mattresses. It is so pathetic the way human beings treat their fellow human beings in this country,” she lamented.
