Members of the Kwara State PDP descended on the EFCC office, demanding the immediate release of ex-Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed, sparking a showdown in Ilorin.

MUK TV had reported that the former Kwara governor was quizzed by the anti-graft agency on Monday over allegations of N10 billion financial fraud during his time in office.

Despite a heavy security presence, the protesters, armed with placards bearing defiant slogans like ‘Maigida will not join APC no matter the persecution,’ voiced their solidarity with the detained leader in Yoruba songs.

Ahmed’s interrogation by EFCC investigators earlier in the week over alleged N10 billion fraud has stirred controversy, with his release pending amid ongoing inquiries into his administration’s financial dealings.

As questions swirl around the expenditure of state funds during his tenure from 2011 to 2019, Ahmed’s Chief Press Secretary insists his visit to the anti-graft agency’s office was routine and procedural, casting doubt on the motives behind his detention.
