The Nigeria Army (NA) has vehemently rejected allegations of a potential coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s democratically elected government, dismissing the claims as “fake news” circulated by an online newspaper.
Amidst growing speculation fueled by reports of unusual movements and heightened security measures, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, had previously cautioned against any calls for a coup amidst the nation’s economic struggles.
While an online newspaper alleged suspicions of a coup plot, citing emergency meetings involving high-ranking officials including President Tinubu and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, the NA swiftly denounced the reports, terming them as baseless.
Despite claims of the Presidential Guards Brigade being placed on high alert, the NA maintained its stance, refraining from elaborating further on the matter.
