Everton’s penalty for breaching Premier League financial regulations has been slashed from 10 points to six following an appeal, the English top flight revealed on Monday.
The initial punishment, imposed in November due to excessive losses exceeding permitted limits, has been mitigated by an independent appeal board, propelling the club to 15th place in the league standings.
“Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the breach, which the club admitted,” stated the Premier League in a released statement.
Highlighting the appeal board’s decision, the Premier League outlined, “Two of those nine grounds were upheld by the appeal board, which has substituted the original points deduction of 10 for six.”
However, Everton’s challenges are not yet over as the club faces another complaint regarding breaches extending to the end of the previous season.
