Amid escalating tensions, seven members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly took decisive action on Monday, suspending sixteen colleagues who had threatened to impeach Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki just days prior.

The suspended lawmakers stand accused of forcibly entering the offices of the clerk and sergeant-at-arms, leaving a trail of destruction at the assembly complex, according to Channels TV reports.

Speaker Moriki’s leadership deemed the legislative session convened by eighteen members last Thursday as illegal, urging Northwest state residents to dismiss rumors of his suspension.

The lawmakers further leveled accusations against influential politicians from outside the state, alleging their involvement in orchestrating disruptions to Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration amidst the state’s escalating security challenges.

MUK TV recalls that  eighteen members has suspended Speaker Moriki last week due to his prolonged absence during the state’s battle against resurging bandit activities.
