Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has slammed her husband’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, for endorsing the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, ahead of the state’s governorship election.
In a post on her Instagram page on Monday morning, Betty described Funke as shameless, stating that time will reveal if she is truly “lucky,” The Punch reported.
The late governor’s wife wrote, “Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as ‘I am lucky’ Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky!”
MUK TV recalls that while Akeredolu was critically battling prostate cancer in Germany, Aiyedatiwa had a fallout with the former Ondo’s first family, with many of Akeredolu’s loyalists accusing him of disloyalty and opportunism.
He was, however, sworn in as the Governor of Ondo State on December 27, 2023, following the death of his former principal, who died of prostate cancer in Germany at the age of 67.
At her husband’s burial, Betty Akeredolu did not hesitate to criticize Aiyedatiwa’s camp, claiming that her husband was called all sorts of names because he loved her.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled April 16, 2024, for the governorship primary, while the main election will be held in November.
