Despite assurances of selling cement at N3500 per bag, BUA Cement has claimed intermediaries and wholesalers hindered end-users from accessing the discounted price, resulting in skyrocketing cement costs.
BUA Cement’s initial pledge to lower prices to N3500, made in October 2023, is facing scrutiny as cement prices have soared to N12,000 to N13,000 per bag, contradicting the promised reduction.
Amidst threats of picketing from civil rights groups, BUA Group defended its actions, asserting that it did honor the commitment by selling cement at N3500 for several months before market forces intervened.
Executive Director Kabir Rabiu emphasizes, “We actually sold our cement for three to four months at N3,500,” highlighting challenges posed by intermediaries in maintaining the discounted price.
