Some suspected gunmen, in the early hours of Friday, attacked a police checkpoint at Ebiya Bridge along the Hilltop area of Ebonyi Local Government area of Ebonyi State.
Sources in the area confirmed that six policemen were brutally murdered, and two girls suspected to be civilians were said to have equally been killed during the violent attack.
The attack on police officers at the Ebiya Bridge police checkpoint is not new; on November 17, 2023, two police officers were killed by suspected gunmen while they were on patrol.
Since DSP Joshua Ukandu, the acting police public relations officer, did not return calls, the Ebonyi Police Command has not yet confirmed the most recent incident.
Friday’s attack is the latest in the long list of assaults on police facilities in the South-East. Several public facilities have been attacked in the region with security agencies and others dying in the process.
