The harrowing saga of insecurity in Nigeria continues as the abductors of 287 schoolchildren from LEA Primary School in Kuriga village, Kaduna State, demand a staggering N1 billion ransom.
According to reliable sources that spoke to Peoples Gazette, the bandits, who concealed their identities, issued a disturbing ultimatum to deliver the ransom within 20 days, threatening to slaughter all 287 children if their demands are not met.
A terrified resident, Aminu Jibril, recounted receiving the distressing call, revealing that the bandits obtained his number from the abducted school principal.
“How can we be able to? Where are we going to start? N1 billion o!” Mr Jubril lamented.
“Even though we sell ourselves and our property, everything we sell, I’m telling you that the community cannot even raise half a billion naira. We cannot see N500 million talk less of N1 billion. We call on government and international organisations to intervene,’’ he added.
Despite community efforts to seek assistance from authorities, the daunting sum remains unattainable.
As the community grapples with the staggering demand, Mr. Jibril’s plea echoes the desperation of a populace overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation.
