In a shocking video, a Nigerian policeman is seen demanding a bribe of N5,000 from a motorist, claiming it was upon the directive of his commanding officer.
Refusing electronic transfers, the officer insisted the motorist withdraw cash from a Point of Sale (POS) machine, emphasizing, “My boss asked me to collect the N5,000 you said was with you.”
Such incidents highlight a concerning trend of police extortion on Nigerian highways.
Just months ago, another officer was filmed demanding payment from a motorist, threatening, “Do it quickly, or face consequences.”
Reacting to the video, Police Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi condemned the behavior as shameful and vowed to take action, saying, “This is not allowed, so shameful. We need more info about this. We will fish him out.”
