The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, disclosed that a significant number of kidnappings in the nation’s capital are orchestrated by individuals, sparking controversy and concern.
Wike made these startling remarks during an exclusive discussion with journalists after a high-level meeting with the Senate, accompanied by FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, to address escalating insecurity in the capital.
Highlighting a notable decrease in kidnapping incidents, he attributed the improvement to the apprehension of the region’s most notorious kidnapping suspects, shedding light on the alleged internal collaborations behind many abduction cases.
“Most of the kidnappings here are sometimes stage-managed by people. There are some internal arrangements.
“Mind you the two most wanted notorious kidnappers, we have gotten them and that is why you see the level of kidnapping has reduced,” Wike said.
Echoing Wike’s assertions, Commissioner of Police Igweh underscored the success of security measures, citing a month-long absence of kidnapping incidents, bolstered by heightened vigilance and forest surveillance.
The Senate’s urgent intervention, triggered by recent kidnapping incidents in the Galadima area of Abuja, underscores the gravity of the security situation, with Senator Nwoko Ned Munir leading the call for reinforced safety protocols within the FCT.
