… Says Shagari Considered Ekwueme For Presidency
Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Alliance (APC), stirred up political fervor in Nnewi as he made a passionate plea to the people of the South-East to connect with the APC, accentuating the need for the region to align with the ruling party to secure a significant political foothold in Nigeria.
Addressing a massive crowd at a mega empowerment rally organized by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Ganduje made a historical revelation, shedding light on a missed opportunity for the Ndigbo to claim the presidency during the era of the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who was a member of second republic’s ruling party, NPN
Reflecting on the past, the former Kano state governor recounted the era when Ekwueme, a prominent figure from Anambra State, served as vice president under President Shehu Shagari.
He asserted that Ekwueme stood on the brink of presidency until the military intervened.
In his words, “You know when your brother, Alex Ekwueme was the vice president to our brother, Shehu Shagari. The body language was there, and if not that the military struck, your son, Alex Ekwueme would have become the president.
“I tell you this story because the road to political freedom is to key into the ruling party, and once you do that, marginalization would be a thing of the past.”
Ganduje’s impassioned plea resonated with the crowd, as he urged the South-East to embrace APC governance and champion its governors in all five states, envisioning a future free from marginalization.
The rally, pulsating with energy, symbolized a renewed sense of political purpose for the South-East, fueled by Ubah’s mobilization efforts and widespread acceptance in Anambra.
Senator Hope Uzodinma, Imo State governor, echoed the sentiment, praising President Bola Tinubu’s bold initiatives to tackle longstanding challenges, including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.
Amidst the electrifying atmosphere, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah affirmed the commitment of Anambra people to integrate into mainstream politics, pledging support for the APC in the upcoming gubernatorial elections, and extending the rally’s empowerment initiatives statewide.
