The publisher of the Kaduna-based Desert Herald Newspaper, Tukur Mamu, has issued a stern ultimatum to the Attorney General of the Federation, demanding the retraction of damning accusations labeling him as a terrorist financier.
In a letter dated March 25, 2024, his legal representative, J.J. Usman (SAN), addressed the Attorney General, setting a seven-day deadline for the retraction to prevent legal action.
“Our Client was arraigned by the Federal Government of Nigeria… on allegations concerning terrorism,” the letter states, expressing dismay over a recent social media publication profiling Mamu as a “terrorist financier.”
The letter highlights the lack of legal designation against Mamu and condemns the violation of his presumption of innocence.
The demand for retraction is clear and firm: failure to comply will result in legal recourse, as outlined in the letter copied to the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.
