A group, Concerned Civil Society Network, has raised alarms over the deteriorating health of detained Kaduna-based Publisher, Malam Tukur Mamu, stressing that he should not face the risk of death in detention due to life-threatening ailments.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Tuesday, Convener of the Concerned Civil Society Network, Comrade Bako Abdul Usman, expressed shock at attempts to label Mamu as a financier of terrorism without any conviction by the court.

“Nearly two years since his arrest, there is yet to be any evidence linking him to terrorism beyond the negotiation and issue of ransom,” the group stated.

Highlighting Mamu’s declining health and lack of access to proper medical treatment, the group urged authorities to prioritize his well-being.

“Courts have ruled that Mamu should urgently access medical treatment, yet his pleas for bail for treatment have been denied. We urge Nigerians and the international community to pressure for expedited trial and ensure Mamu receives the medical attention he urgently needs,” the group emphasized.

The group further called upon Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, to intervene and ensure Mamu’s access to medical care to prevent any tragedy while in detention.

“We urge the Federal Government to halt the media trial of Mamu and focus on expediting his trial to ensure justice is served,” the group concluded.
