In a bid to ease the financial burden on pilgrims, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has sanctioned a subsidy of N500,000 for each individual intending to embark on the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The announcement was made by Alhaji Lamin Dan-Baffa, Director-General of the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Kano.
Expressing empathy for the economic challenges faced by many citizens, Dan-Baffa emphasized that the subsidy aims to alleviate the financial strain experienced by intending pilgrims amidst the current economic conditions.
“Considering the current economic hardship the people are facing, increase in the Hajj fare is a great challenge to many intending pilgrims , the subsidy is to alleviate their sufferings.
“Those who have already paid part-payment to the board will benefit from the subsidy as over 2,900 intending pilgrims have already paid to the board, ” Vanguard quoted him as saying.
Dan-Baffa urged all intending pilgrims to ensure the settlement of their remaining balances before the stipulated deadline of March 28, in compliance with directives from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
