The Department of State Services (DSS) has permitted the personal doctor of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to visit and medically examine him.

This significant update was disclosed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, on Thursday, marking the culmination of efforts that commenced last year.

Ejimakor further revealed that the legal team held a meeting with Kanu, delivering a message of unwavering commitment to his cause.

“The jinx is finally broken. Today, a very competent doctor, personally chosen by Onyendu #MNK, met and examined him,” Ejimakor shared. “It wasn’t easy, counting from last year when this should’ve happened. The indomitable #MnkLegalTeam also met with MNK today. It’s tough but we must not relent.”

The DSS had previously faced criticism for denying Kanu access to independent medical attention, despite his claims of deteriorating health, including congestive cancer, during his court appearances.

In another development, Ejimakor criticized the Nigerian army for releasing over 300 Boko Haram suspects, juxtaposing the detention of a pro-sovereignty advocate with the release of alleged terrorists.

“It’s an oxymoron for the Army to declare someone wanted for seeking a separate State and turn around to free HUNDREDS of terrorists, all in the same week,” Ejimakor expressed.

“It’s another stark evidence of the horrendous injustice that is responsible for the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he added.
