Mehmet Palaz, Deputy Head of the opposition Republican People’s Party branch, in a devastating turn of events, met his untimely death when a balcony collapsed during the jubilant celebration of an election triumph.
The fateful incident happened in Denizli, Turkey, as supporters of Kadir Tatik, a member of the Republican People’s Party, exulted in his victory in the Tavak district elections.
However, the celebration turned to tragedy as the balcony gave way, leaving seven others injured.
The gathering had assembled to commemorate Tatik’s triumph in the local municipality head’s race following the announcement of preliminary results.
Footage captured the tragic moment as the balcony, adorned with party members, suddenly disintegrated, plunging Palaz and others to the ground below.
Twitter user @MyLordBebo shared a video of the event, lamenting the loss of Mehmet Palaz and the injuries sustained by eight others, remarking, “Imagine, you just won the elections and this happens, unlucky.”
Reports indicate that as individuals climbed to the second floor of the building before the tragedy struck, resulting in injuries, with three individuals in critical condition.
Palaz, who suffered a fatal head injury in the collapse, was rushed to Pamukkale City Hospital, where he gave up the ghost on April 1.
